Peter Collins (Irish: Peadar Ó Coileáin) is an Irish sportscaster for national broadcaster Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ). He is seen on RTÉ's coverage of live Soccer, Gaelic games, Formula One, track & field athletics and Moto GP. He is the current presenter of RTEs International, Champions League and 'live' League of Ireland football coverage.
Collins is a native of Westport, County Mayo.
Peter Collins played football for Westport United FC and won a Connaught Cup medal with the club back in 1987.
He is a father.[1]
Career
[edit]Prior to focusing solely on sports broadcasting, Collins was a late-night radio DJ on 2FM, and also occasionally presented the RTÉ TV / radio simulcast The Beatbox.
Collins has presented and/or commentated for RTÉ at all major championships (Olympic Games, FIFA World Cup, UEFA European Championship) since 1990.
Interests
[edit]Peter Collins is a former member of Freefall in Crimson and often cites Fontaines DC as his favourite band and Dave Fanning as the most important Itish radio broadcaster. During his radio career he was an advocate of Irish rock music with U2, The Cranberries, The Blades, The Attrix, The Undertones, Power of Dreams, Tuesday Blue, Eugene, The Shade, Silent Running, Those Nervous Animals, Frank and Walters among the many Irish bands regularly featured. He had a brief music career playing percussion for Irish funk rock band ‘Republic of Loose’ from 2003-2004. Collins is also a regular in the Formula One and MotoGP paddocks.

My son Rory played underage football for an all-conquering Templeogue United side which featured a number of lads who tried their luck in England and some others who are now sprinkled around the League of Ireland.
