Shishir Parkhie is an Indian Ghazal singer and composer known for his soulful renditions and unique style. He has been nominated twice for the Global Indian Music Academy Awards in the Best Ghazal Album category (2012 & 2015).[1] [2]

With a career spanning several decades, he has performed extensively across India and in several countries overseas, mesmerizing audiences with his live Ghazal performances. He has released multiple albums under reputed music labels, further establishing his presence in the world of Ghazals. His music blends classical depth with contemporary appeal, making him a distinguished figure in the Ghazal genre.

Early life

[edit]

Born into a musically enriched family, Shishir Parkhie began his musical journey at a young age under the guidance of his mother, Pratima Parkhie, a Sugam Sangeet artist who regularly performed for All India Radio, Ranchi. His father, Shri Sharad Raghunath Parkhie, was the Deputy Chief Architect for the city of Bokaro.

Shishir started singing at the age of six and also trained in Tabla under Shri Kedarnath Thakur for three years. His early performances quickly drew attention, and he excelled in various music competitions, winning several accolades. At 15, he gave his first solo Ghazal concert in Bokaro Steel City, receiving widespread appreciation from the Ghazal community. In 1979, he was honored by All India Radio for his outstanding participation in the International Year of the Child, where he also performed at a National Concert.

He completed his ICSE from St. Xavier's School, Bokaro, before moving to Nagpur for higher studies. Shishir pursued General Science (HSSC) at Hislop College, Nagpur, and later enrolled in Electronics Engineering at Manoharbhai Patel Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET), Gondia. After his second year, he transferred to Yeshwantrao Chavan College of Engineering, Nagpur, where he actively performed with various music groups and began focusing on his solo Ghazal career.

During this period, he composed several commercial jingles and gained recognition for his compositions and performances on Doordarshan, which paved the way for multiple musical albums. Shishir also trained in Hindustani Classical Vocal Music under Dr. Narayanrao Mangrulkar and Smt. Rekha Saney in Nagpur. He later achieved his Sangeet Visharad degree from Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, solidifying his foundation in classical music.
