Pacificana is a genus of spiders in the family Miturgidae. It was first described in 1904 by Hogg.[2] As of 2017, it contains only one species, Pacificana cockayni (Banded Bounty Island spider), found in New Zealand.[1]

Taxonomy

This species was described in 1904 by Henry Roughton Hogg from male and female specimens.[2] It was most recently revised in 1955. The type specimen is stored in Otago Museum.[3]

Description

The female is recorded at 21.5mm in length. The cephalothorax is dark brown with yellow markings dorsally. The legs are yellow and ringed with brown bands. The abdomen is has yellow and black stripes dorsally.[2]

Distribution

This species is only known from Bounty Island in New Zealand.[3]

Conservation status

Under the New Zealand Threat Classification System, this species is listed as "Naturally Uncommon" with the qualifiers of "Climate Impact", "Data Poor: Trend", "Island Endemic" and "One Location".[4]
