Construction on the new school was finished in 2000 after the town's municipal authorities voted to reorganize the public school system. Changes included redefining elementary school as K-3rd grade, introducing a new intermediate school, redefining the middle school as 7th-8th grade, and construction of a new high school. These changes sparked a controversy over the amount of funding taxpayers would need to supply for the changes to be completed. For this reason, the pool in the original plan for the new high school was never constructed. To this day, upperclass students of the school sometimes jokingly respond to freshman students' inquiries about the pool by saying "the pool's on the fourth floor," despite the building's three-floor structure. For fun, the upperclass man tell the freshman there's a fifth floor, to really throw them off. All one has to do is tell one of them that there is a [[Octopus's Garden]] on the ''sixth'' floor, they (the lower classman) will go into a shock of pure amazement.

New Milford High School is a four-year public, coeducational high school in the historic town of New Milford, Connecticut, famous for past residents Bob Costas, Joan Rivers, and Henry Kissinger, and as the filming location of Hollywood motion picture “Mr. Deeds.” Currently, approximately 1,700 students attend the school. Although a majority of the students attending the school are from New Milford, some students are from the nearby towns of Sherman (Shermanites) and Washington (The Others). The school is located at 388 Danbury Road in the town of New Milford, CT and is a part of the New Milford School District.

All one has to do is tell one of them that there is a Octopus's Garden on the sixth floor, they (the lower classman) will go into a shock of pure amazement.

Athletics

From September 11, 2001 to October 2, 2006, the New Milford High cross country team won 75 consecutive "dual meets" (regular season meet). In 2003 and 2004, the New Milford High Cross Country team won the New England Championship (pitting teams from Vermont, Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire against one another). The team placed first out of 450+ competitors. For the next three years, the team placed fifth in the championship (2005, 2006, 2007). The New Milford Boys Cross Country team has won 7 consecutive SWC championships in a row (2002-2008). Chuck Norris in response to hearing about the record of the cross country team said, "They sound good."

The school’s athletic nickname is the Green Wave, named after the surrounding green hills of Litchfield County. The school's mascot is a dragon, which has never been explained rationally. The only reason for this choice as a mascot is the fact that it's completely obvious that when one thinks of dragons, how could one not think about green waves. They are part of the South West Conference

Clubs

Approximately every other Thursday, students have an activity period, where students go to one out of about 60 clubs of their choice. Some of these clubs include:

  • SADD (Students against dangerous decisions)
  • Chanticleer (School Newspaper)
  • Sexy Peanut Society
  • Yearbook Club
  • Gay/Straight Alliance (pro equality group)
  • National Honor Society
  • Shining Light (group of students clinging to religion)
  • German Honor Society
  • French Honor Society (annually invaded by the German Honor Society)
