Mumbai Police (Malayalam: മുംബൈ പോലീസ്) is a 2013 Indian Malayalam thriller film written by Bobby-Sanjay and directed by Rosshan Andrrews. It features Prithviraj, Jayasurya and Rahman in the lead roles. While the supporting roles are played by Kunjan, Aparna Nair and debutant Hima Davis. The film is produced by Nisad Haneefa and co-produced by Nivas Haneef and Niyas Haneefa. The background score was composed by Gopi Sunder and the cinematography was handled by G. Diwakaran. The movie is loosely connected with Hongkong movie Murderer and Hollywood movie The Bourne Identity

Plot

The movie opens with ACP Antony Moses aka Rascal Moses (Prithviraj) getting into an accident which causes him, a partial memory loss. Before the accident , he had solved the murder case of his friend, Assistant Commissioner Aaryan John Jacob (Jayasurya), who was killed during a gallantry awards ceremony at police/parade grounds possibly by a Long range rifle. Antony gets into the accident while talking to his senior officer and brother-in-law Farhan Ashraf (Rahman),Commissioner of police. He tells him that the case is solved. But, before giving the name of the murderer, accident occurs.

Mumbai Police was awarded with U certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification. It was released on 3 May 2013.

Reception

Mumbai Police has received positive reviews from film critics.

Sify.com says that "Mumbai Police is one of the best films to have emerged out of Malayalam cinema in a long time."[2]

Paresh of Rediff.com says that "Mumbai Police is good suspense thriller which will make history for its interesting story."[3]

South Cine Arena rated a 4/5 and noted that " a novel storyline combined with brilliant technical assistance and perfomances makes Mumbai Police a must watch this season.Undoubtedly this is one among the best suspense thrillers ever made in Malayalam cinema"[4]

Aswin of The Times of India says that "Mumbai Police might not be a fully delectable film. But it arrests and engages the audience with bold portrayals from a well-chosen cast."[5]

Indiaglitz.com says that "Mumbai Police is undoubtedly one of the finest works from Roshan and his crew. A rare piece of brilliance that Mollywood can be proud of."[6]

Veeyen of Nowrunning.com says that "In 'Mumbai Police', Roshan Andrews and writers Bobby and Sanjay, lasso in their audience ever so steadily right into the midst of a steaming eddy. The dark lined elegance that the movie sports, makes it a gritty, knotty thriller - a hardboiled treat."[7]

Tikkview.com given a postive rating and review for Mumbai Police.They given 3.9/5 rating and their review says that"Mumbai Police is a well attempted fast paced thriller that will make a definitely entertaining watch"[9]

TheaterBalcony.com came up with a positive review which says "Definitely Mumbai Police stand out from the rest, you need to sit and watch whether you are going to accept the experiments what Mumabi Police brings in. And it is your call whether you can think differently than the usual formulaic story. At the end a strikingly different story, well executed and acted"[10]

Movieorange.com says that "Mumbai Police is certainly different, the scripting and its presentation is extra ordinary and realistic."[11]
