Inactivity

[edit]

Although I appreciate User:MZMcBride creating this template to replace the "An event mentioned in this article is a selected anniversaries" messages on various talk pages, they have not been maintained for the past three years. They were posted in 2004 when the WP:SA templates were established and User:Mav was maintaining them. But as items have been rotated on and off the WP:SA templates, users have not been updating the corresponding article talk pages. And it is harder to maintain this tag when admins routinely add or remove items from the tmeplate to "rebalance the main page". So until a user or bot is willing to maintain this template on a daily basis, I am removing this tag from the talk pages and marking it as inactive. Omagh Bombings

[edit]

Hi, your AWB persists in removing the anniversary tag from this page. It is a significant date. Could you pleases desist? Thanks --MJB (talk) 16:53, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

These tags refer to the On this day/selected anniversaries templates that rotate on the main page. These messages were first placed on the talk pages when the templates was first established in 2004. However, they have not been maintained in the past three years, as new items on these templates have been rotated in and out. Therefore, a number of these articles still have the tag even though they do not apply anymore. As a result, I am removing them until there someone volunteers to maintain these messages again. Thanks. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 17:00, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And the Omagh bombing is one of those articles that do not currently appear in any of the On this day/selected anniversaries templates.[1] Zzyzx11 (Talk) 17:03, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What the ... on this day?

[edit]

That is all! El_C 18:02, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The On this day templates are fine and have been maintained consistently. It is just that when items are added or removed from them, the messages on the article talk pages have not. So you had something like the message on Talk:Omagh bombing in August where it said that the article was selected for "on this day", but when you clicked on the link, it was not there on the template. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 18:10, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, gotcha! El_C 18:16, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, on this day I really enjoy how the AWB program completely stops when you have new messages on your talk page. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 18:21, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Mission accomplished! El_C 18:26, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Luckily I have about less than 30 pages to go, so I can probably go edit manually if push comes to shove... and most of them left are on archived talk pages (which is another reason why this tag is currently not efficient) Zzyzx11 (Talk) 18:35, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Great job! El_C 19:21, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Gibraltar

[edit]

Hi there. Why have you removed the {{OnThisDay}} from the Talk:Gibraltar? These are still important and celebrated anniversaries in Gibraltar. Regards, --Gibmetal 77talk 18:38, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please read my previous comments above. Thanks. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 18:45, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Template:OnThisDay

[edit]

As I recall, that template was created and implemented to merge 366 templates into one (see here). While I realize that the new entries aren't being maintained, there's no real reason to discourage the use of the template and there's certainly no reason to remove the tag from appropriately labeled pages. --MZMcBride (talk) 19:32, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As I stated on the Talk:Omagh bombing example above, I have a problem when a newbie clicks on the link to the specified OTD/SA template and finds it not there... and then wonders how us admin are not doing "our job". But if you are totally against it, feel free to revert. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 19:39, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
We need a script that runs through the history of the Main Page templates and tells us which pages were linked on which days from which templates and for how long (ie. miss out the mistakes and temporary additions). And then updates the corresponding pages. What it can't do is leave the nice message on user talk pages to reward the nominator/author of individual items. Still need humans to do that. Um?

[edit]

This template seems to be partially messed up. See, for example, here or here. What gives? --Illythr (talk) 20:53, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The year and revision are missing. Fell free to fix them yourself, or to simply remove them, as a bot should be tagging things properly soon. Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 04:35, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dates included

[edit]

I have started a discussion on which dates ought to be included in this template. If you wish to comment, please do so there. Waltham, The Duke of 02:06, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What is the oldid1 parameter?

[edit]

How do I figure out what to do with the oldid1? I just added this template to Talk:Ottawa Redblacks but don't know how to proceed. Ottawahitech (talk) 17:15, 1 December 2016 (UTC)please ping me[reply]

@Ottawahitech: That parameter takes the revision ID of the revision of the Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries subpage where the fact actually appeared. Note this template is not for Wikipedia:In the news. Anomie 01:33, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Anomie: Thanks for responding AND FOR PINGING ME. I think what you are saying is that {{On this day}} is not the right template to use on a talkpage when the Main page links to the talkpage's article? If so, which template should one use? Thanks in advance, Ottawahitech (talk) 17:26, 4 December 2016 (UTC)please ping me[reply]
@Ottawahitech: {{On this day}} is for when a page appears as the bold link in an item in the "On this day..." section. I don't know what templates there might be for other parts of the main page; I only know about this template because my bot, User:AnomieBOT, automatically adds or updates the {{On this day}} templates on articles' talk pages. The ellipsis (...) in this template should be removed, to match the current title of the Main Page section. — RAVENPVFF · talk · 01:21, 26 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Template needs df=yes option

[edit]

This template presents dates only in American date format. How do we get a df=yes option so that it can display the day first and then the month? Tayste (edits) 21:04, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
