Manlio Fabio Beltrones Rivera, born in Villa Juárez, Sonora; August 30, 1952, is a Mexican politician member of the Institutional Revolutionary Party. He is currently serving as Senator of his state.
Political life
He graduated in Economics degree from the National School of Economics of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Was received with the thesis "The Importance of Agriculture in Economic Development in Mexico. Analysis and Perspectives. " He is a member of Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) since 1970. He is currently a senator of the LX Legislature of the Congress of Mexico, for the period 2006-2012. Holds the position of Chairman of the Policy Coordination Board of the Senate and coordinator of the parliamentary group of his party in the Senate.
Has been a teacher assistant at the Seminar on Public Administration, Faculty of Economics, UNAM. In its activities in the public service was head of the District Department of delegations in the Federal District (DF), the National Register of Electors, and assistant secretary of the Assistant Secretary of the Interior, Fernando Gutiérrez Barrios. In 1982 he was elected federal deputy for the Fourth Election District of the State of Sonora (LII Legislature Congress of Mexico). In 1985 he was President of the PRI in Sonora and then Secretary of State Government. In 1988 he was elected Senator for his state for the first time from the License requested to be appointed Assistant Secretary of Government, Political Development and Human Rights of the Ministry, a post he held until March 1991, when he was nominated as candidate of the PRI state government of Sonora. He was governor of October 22, 1991, to September 12, 1997.
After fulfilling his term as head of state government acted as a consultant in public finance to federal, state and municipal levels. The year 2002 was elected Secretary General of the National Executive Committee of the National Confederation of Popular Organizations (CNOP) of the PRI. He was President of the House of Representatives from 2004 to 2005.
Since then has had an active presence on the political scene, as one of the major players in the process of reform. Advance the proposed change in the current presidential system of court, by another more in line with democratic pluralism in the country, in which no party has absolute majority in Congress. Now promotes such a debate within his party and other political forces sympathetic to the idea.
