Maija Kovalevska (Latvian: Maija Kovaļevska; born 21 September 1979, Riga, Latvia)[1] is a Latvian soprano opera singer.

Kovalevska rose to international prominence in 2006 after winning the Operalia, The World Opera Competition[2], judged by Plácido Domingo. She made her Metropolitan Opera debut in 2006, starring first as Mimi in Puccini's La Bohéme under the direction of Domingo, and later as Euridice in Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice.[3]

In 2011 she starred as Michaela in the Royal Opera House's 3D film production of Bizet's "Carmen."[4]

She is a student of Italian soprano Mirella Freni.[5]
