Plot
Harsha(Ram Charan Teja) is a stunt man and ekes out his living by taking part in bike races and stunts. He happens to meet Indu (Kajal Agarwal) and whenever he touches her, he gets an electrical shock and is reminded of something that happened in the past. He falls in love with her but at first Indu doesn't reciprocate the love. But slowly, even Indu falls for Harsha. Indu's father fights a legal battle for the Udaygadh kingdom as it was his ancestral property. His brother-in-law enjoys the property illegally. The latter's son Raghuveer (Dev Gill) is spellbound by Indu's beauty when he saw her at Indu's colony, and goes to their home and promises to return the entire property with the hopes of marrying Indu. One night, when Indu was sleeping, Raghuveer goes to her room and tries to touch her, but as soon as he comes near her, an unknown force holds him back. Raghuveer then goes to Aghora, a tantrik and tells him about his problem. Aghora then tells Raghuveer that his love story has been going on since 400 years. 400 years back, Raghuveer was the senapati of Udaygadh and was in love with the future queen of Udaygadh, Maitra, who is now reborn as Indu. He dies because of her love, but there was one more too like him, who was in love with Maitra. That was Bhairav, now reborn as Harsha. Aghora tells Raghuveer that as long as Bhairav aka Harsha is alive, Raghuveer cannot even touch Indu. On learning that Indu's father accepted her love for Harsha, Raghuveer kills the father and implicates Harsha in the murder. Though Harsha tries to explain the truth to Indu, she doesn't believe him. As Raghuveer was about to get on the helicopter which would take him and Indu to Udaygadh, Harsha frees himself from Raghuveer's goons and jumps towards the helicopter from the terrace of a house and manages to catch hold of the handle in the helicopter. While trying to convince Indu that he is innocent, Indu's hand touches Harsha, and because he doesn't move his hand away, Harsha gets a big electrical shock and falls down from the helicopter into a lake.
The story then goes back four centuries to 1609 AD. There is a kingdom called Udaygadh in Rajasthan ruled by King Vikram Singh (Sarath Babu). His daughter, Maitra, is the future queen of Udaygadh. Kaal Bhairav, the greatest of the great warriors, who will surely kill 100 enemies on the battlefield, and who has not known the taste of defeat, is the one whom Maitra is in love with. Randev, senapati of Udaygadh also loves Maitra. Soon after, a competition between Bhairav and Randev is held to determine the future husband of Maitra. Then, Randev pulls Maitra's scarf away and says that the one who cannot even protect herself from enemies, how will she protect the kingdom? So saying, he announces that the competition will have another motive: to determine the successor of the king. Maitra also states a condition that the loser of the competition will be banished from Udaygadh. The whole kingdom of Udaygadh cheers for Bhairav, and truly Bhairav is the winner of the competition. But, there is one hitch. It is already predicted that Bhairav will not live beyond 30 years. Therefore, the king tells Bhairav that he will marry his daughter and Bhairav as Maitra will have to live as a widow for the rest of her life after Bhairav dies at such an early age. Though saddened, Bhairav bravely keeps his composure and announces that he is a soldier and will continue to remain so, and that he won the competition only to keep the princess's self-respect. On the other hand, the Rajguru of the kingdom tells the king in private that a strange combination of the 8 planets, which happens only once in 400 years, is now happening, and that it brings with it very bad omens. Then the minister of the king tells him that the predictions are true; Sher Khan, a very feared king, who wants to rule over the whole of India, is at the border of Udaygadh with 1 lakh soldiers.

The Rajguru tells that a certain puja will have to be done to avert the danger. At the site of the puja, Maitra, frustrated with Bhairav's behavior, splashes the colors meant for the god on a wall and creates a beautiful painting of Bhairav with her hands, conveying her hurt and un-reciprocated love. Just then Sher Khan and Randev, who has joined forces with Sher Khan, arrive at the scene and attack on the people present for the puja. As promised, Bhairav kills a 100 soldiers of Sher Khan's army. Though grievously wounded himself, Bhairav fights with & kills Randev, who before dying, also kills Maitra saying that if Maitra cannot be his, she cannot be anybody else's. After the fight, Maitra calls for Bhairav one last time and slips off the cliff and Bhairav also jumps after her. The story comes back to the present time, where a similar fight ensues between Harsha & Raghuveer. By that time Indu has also remembered her past fully. At last, Harsha kills Raghuveer and the film ends on a happy note.

Critical reception
The Times of India gave a 3/5 rating and said "Ram Charan Teja" showcases his horse-riding and dancing skills to perfection, while Kajal Aggarwal known for simple lover girl roles transforms into a determined princess and truly impresses. Actor Dev Gil is adequate as the ruthless villain. Also kudos for the way he has visualised and presented the film". Radhika Rajamani from Rediff rated it 3/5 and explained that "Ram Charan seems to be a chip of the old block when it comes to dancing. Have a look at it for its technical brilliance". NDTV who praised the lead performances and technical aspects of the film says "Ramcharan has excelled in all the departments and perfectly matched expectations. His macho image suited the warrior s character well. His ability to pen the screenplay could be seen in every frame and every scene of the film".

Sify Movies noted "Cinematography plays a vital role with capturing the historic ambience of castles, romantic sojourns into scintillating locales and also into the risky stunts." According to Suresh Krishnamoorthy from The Hindu stated "Rajamouli, who has delivered a half-a-dozen hits and is touted as one of the most successful directors of the decade in Telugu cinema, excels in story-telling. The vast expanse of the Thar desert in Rajasthan has been beautifully-showcased but what one does not understand is the colour on the screen. The sand is almost milky-bluish white!". Behindwoods gave 2.5/5 and wrote "There is great scope for action, heroics, romance and sentiments in such a plot and the director has used it extremely well.
