MacKenzie James Hunt (born 14 November 2001) is an professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for EFL League Two club Fleetwood Town.[4] Born in England, he plays for the United Arab Emirates national team.

Club career

Hunt started out in the youth system at Everton joining the club at the age of 6, before leaving in 2012 - when he moved to Dubai after his dad was offered a job in the Middle East and Hunt joined the Go-Pro Sports Football Academy in Dubai shortly afterwards.[5]

In 2015, Hunt re-joined Everton to continue his football development back on Merseyside,[4] and despite being on the first team bench on numerous occasions during the 2023–24 season, he failed to make an appearance and was released at the end of his contract in June 2024.[6]

On 4 July 2024, Hunt joined League Two side Fleetwood Town on a two-year deal,[7] with Hunt making his professional debut for The Cod Army on the opening day of the season, as he played the full ninety minutes, during Fleetwood's 1–0 win against Grimsby Town on 10 August 2024.[8]

International career

On 30 August 2024, Hunt was called up to the United Arab Emirates national football team to take part in World Cup qualifying.[9][10] He qualifies to play for the country having lived in Dubai for seven years during his youth.[11] He debuted on 5 September 2024 in a World Cup qualifier against Qatar at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium. He substituted Tahnoon Al-Zaabi in the 88th minute and assisted on UAE's last goal as they won 3–1.[12]
