Wilf Morton

First appearance29 January 2007
Last appearance5 October 2007
In-universe information
ChildrenJerry Morton
GrandchildrenDarryl Morton
Kayleigh Morton
Mel Morton
Jodie Morton

Wilfred "Wilf" Morton arrived on Coronation Street with his granddaughter, Jodie. He called Dev Alahan "chief", which Dev took to be a racist comment. However, Jodie explained that Wilf was not good with names and that this was simply his method of addressing people informally. Wilf is an ex-jailbird with an extensive criminal record, mostly off the back of his tendency to take part in a quick scam - a trait that many members of his family have inherited. On discovering granddaughter Mel's plans to join the police, he claimed it was like "being stabbed". However, despite his former misdemeanours, Wilf does hold his family dear; realising that his past record may affect Mel (or "Melanie", as he insists on calling her) and her application to join the Police Force, Wilf "faked" his death on Father's Day, 2007, submitting a false obituary to the Weatherfield Gazette. This action led to Blanche Hunt and Deirdre Barlow believing he was, indeed, dead - with the former arranging her own wake (despite still being very much alive) as a result. Wilf's intentions towards Blanche are not yet known; while the two often bicker, Blanche was genuinely shocked when she believed Wilf to be dead, and Wilf has made several flirtatious comments towards Mrs. Hunt. Although he appeared to live with his son and grandchildren, Wilf's appearances suddenly ceased and was not referred to when his family left the Street in September 2008. He didn't even appear when Jerry had a heart attack in June and hasn't been referred to since late 2007.

Wiki Dankowska (Polish pronunciation: [ˈviki daŋˈkɔfska] (English)), played by Wanda Opalinska, made her first appearance on 26 February 2007 as a new employee of Carla Connor at the Underworld factory. As a Polish immigrant, she was paid less than other employees, and they became concerned that their pay would be affected by this. She was bullied by Joanne Jackson and Janice Battersby, but Hayley Cropper secured her equal pay for her from Liam Connor. She is the only factory worker to have seen Kasia Barowicz fall and die in the factory during an illegal shift. Paul, Carla and Liam covered up Kasia's death until 8:00am the following morning, when the death would be covered by their insurance. Wiki went along with this when Carla told her that if they didn't do this, Kasia's family would get no compensation money. Wiki has a son back home in Poland, aged 21, and she worked in Underworld to support him.

She then started her own business selling underwear. In early 2008, Wiki spotted Kelly Crabtree stealing rejected underwear from Underworld to sell at her own knicker party, and Wiki was torn between telling Carla or keeping it secret. She was soon accused of stealing them herself but Kelly stepped forward to take the blame. She rarely is seen getting angry, but when Janice Battersby returned to work, having been arrested for fraud, after it was discovered she had kept the winnings that had been meant for the Lottery syndicate she was a part of for herself, Wiki was very angry with her and declared that it would be a long time before their friendship could be repaired.

On 25 December 2008, she spent Christmas with Emily Bishop, Norris Cole and Mary Taylor, where she cooked them a traditional Polish dinner. Though they weren't impressed she didn't notice and got merry.

On 6 February 2009 right after Tony Gordon confessed to Carla that he killed Liam Connor, Wiki interrupted them to say that she was going back to Poland, to look after her ill mother. ITV Announced in April 2009 that Wiki Dankowska will not return to Coronation Street after the show axed her.

Kasia Barowicz arrived in 2007 as a Polish worker at the Underworld factory - their second Polish employee following Wiki.

On the morning of 16 April 2007, she was involved in an accident whilst working illegally for Carla Connor in the factory. She tripped whilst carrying a stack of boxes and fell down a flight of stairs, dying from the injuries she sustained. Carla panicked at the thought that her business plans would be scuppered and didn't phone for an ambulance. Instead she phoned her husband Paul who hurried to the factory.

Paul, Carla and Paul's brother Liam all lied to the police about what time Kasia died. They knew that the police would ask questions if they called the ambulance immediately. As Kasia was working out of hours after doing two shifts, they were breaking the law. Liam even clocked Kasia in at eight o'clock (the time that her legal shift was due to begin) in an attempt to avoid further questions.

That morning, Sally Webster, came in for material for daughter Rosie's school play costume. Sally grew suspicious and knew something didn't add up.

When he arrived, they both had a good time and, on the way back to The Rovers, Liz and Derek shared a passionate kiss for the first time.
