  1. ^ Prior to the separation of the Port Phillip District of New South Wales into the independent colony of Victoria, the Supreme Court of New South Wales was the superior court in the District. A local division of that court, the Supreme Court of New South Wales for the District of Port Phillip, was established in 1840 and existed until the Supreme Court of Victoria was created in 1852.
