'''Lanark Grammar School''' is a secondary school in [[Lanark]], [[Scotland]]. It was founded in 1183, and celebrated its octocentenary in 1983, including a visit by [[Princess Anne]]. Notable former pupils include [[rally (sports)|rally]] driver [[Colin McRae]] and Richard Arnott. The [[school]] draws its pupils from the town of [[Lanark]] and many villages in the local area, including [[Douglas, South Lanarkshire|Douglas]], Carstairs, Forth and Glespin. The school frequently takes part in [[Lanark Lanimers]], the town's annual festival. |

Arguably the oldest school in the country, the school has 5 houses: Lockhart, Jerviswood, Wallace, Hyndford and Braxfield and pupils are sorted into these by tutor group upon the first day of term. The school has over 70 teachers and around 15 subjects. The biggest department is Maths and the smallest is R.E. It has the largest Classics department in the country. |

Lanark Grammar School is currently being re-built at the previous site of the extension building as part of the county's school modernisation program. It is due for completion by the beginning of term 2008/2009. |

==Charitable Projects== |

Mrs. Blakeley, one of the Depute Head Teachers helps to raise money for orphans over in Kenya through the school. In the 2005/2006 term Lanark Grammar raised £2,000. |
|||
Mrs. Melvin has been collecting for the Kenyan Orphans since the start of the 2007/2008 term after Mrs. Blakely retired. |
|||
During November 2008, pupils donated kindly to the charity to help raise money for Christmas Day dinners for the children in Kenya. |
|||
School pupils in fifth and sixth year also take part in the St. Andrews Hospice school race at Strathclyde Park. |
