King's Baptist Grammar School is in Wynn Vale, a north eastern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia having moved from nearby Tea Tree Gully where it was known as Tea Tree Gully Christian School.
History
Construction of the Wynn Vale site began in November 1988, as part of the Golden Grove development. On 7 February 1989 King's opened on its Wynn Vale Campus with 300 students. The oval and library are shared with the government Keithcot Farm Primary School.
The school's most recent addition was a new science and performing arts building (completed at the end of 2004) including 4 specialist laboratories, 4 instrumental teaching rooms, a keyboard lab, and amphitheatre, amongst other things, as well as an extension to the Design and Technology building, dedicated to CAD.
Facilities
The school has one of the largest ranges of facilities in the area, with well over 120 computers, and both a theatre and outdoor amphitheatre. There are over 150 teaching classrooms in addition to these. The school's arts programs is renowned as a great one, with dedicated instrumental lessons being a popular extra-curricular activity amongst students (almost a third of the school learns an instrument!). The school used to compete in the Rock Eisteddfod Challenge until 2003, when it began making its own musical productions. The first of these was Bye Bye Birdie, and the musical for 2007 was Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story with the musical for 2008 being Anything Goes. The school decided to pick up the pace with a fresh, newer energetic show with "Seussical" which is a musical based on the books of famous children's author "Dr. Seuss". It was by far the most successful show in King's history, breaking all previous box office takings and record attendances to all the shows! A show that appealed to all ages, it was packed with great shows and lots of gags. The next upcoming production will be The Wizard of Oz.
