The Institute was founded by Dr. [[Anthony Cerami]], PhD and his daughter Dr. Carla Cerami Hand, MD/PhD. Dr. Anthony Cerami is a member of the [[United States National Academy of Sciences|National Academy of Sciences]] and the [[Institute of Medicine]]. He is an inventor on 131 U.S. [[patents]], and the author of over 420 published scientific papers.

The Kenneth S. Warren Institute was originally incorporated in accordance with the New York State Not-for-Profit laws and originally chartered in 1980, under the name of The Drug and Vaccine Development Corporation (DVDC). In response to a U.S. mandate on the industrial sector to contribute more directly to improving public health in emerging nations, the DVDC espoused to pay particular attention to the health problems affecting populations in the developing world, and it sought to promote working the fields of [[parasitology]] and [[tropical medicine]].
