Karl Legris (French pronunciation: [kaʁl ləɡʁi]; born December 23, 2003), known professionally as ZephyrMusic, is a French musician, actor, singer-songwriter, and record producer.
Early life and education
[edit]Karl Legris was born on December 23, 2003, in Maubeuge, France.[1] He comes from a family of non-musicians, he his the son of Éric Legris, an athlete who is regularly on the podium, and Céline Legris.[2]
Legris spent a lot of time with his maternal grandparents Jean-Jacques and Annie-Claude during his childhood.[3][4]
Around the age of 8, a specialist assumed that he was hyperactive, this assumption was quickly abandoned. After several appointments and medical examinations, he is told that he has dyspraxia.[5] He is followed by specialists and will have a school assistant, which will not prevent him from realizing his passion contrary to the statements of some specialists.[6]
Legris attended Anne Godeau elemantary school in Bachant where he discovered his passion for music thanks to one of his teachers who brought and played his guitar in class.[5] He was enrolled by his parents at the Hautmont music school to learn music theory and musical instruments including the trombone, violin, guitar and piano.[7]
He learned the piano mostly self-taught due to the closure of his music school due to the COVID-19 pandemic
Legris attended the Jessé de Forest high school in Avesnes-sur-Helpe where he obtained his baccalauréat, then he attended the Henri Warembourg Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lille (formerly: Lille 2 University of Health and Law) to learn medicine.[3][4]
Career
[edit]He began his career in July 2022 inspired by musicians Marcus Veltri, Rob Landes and Karolina Protsenko. His stage name "ZephyrMusic" is a play on words meaning a soft and pleasant musical wind.
He distributed via TuneCore his first composition "Broken Heart Song" on July 24, 2022, on SoundCloud and Audiomack, and later on YouTube Music. Between July and August 2022 he released several covers including "Mistral Gagnant" by singer Renaud,[8] release appreciated and described as "the ultimate soundtrack".[9] During the same period, he also released a version of the song "Take On Me" by the group A-ha, listenable in the game The Last of Us Part II and "The Roost" from the Animal Crossing games.[10][4][11]
On October 31, 2022, he performed 13 extracts of Halloween-themed music on the piano dressed in the costume of Ghostface from the Scream franchise.[12]
He owns and creates high-quality replicas like the Wayne Enterprises suitcase, Bruce Wayne handwritten message, and the vintage World War I photo which shows Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) and Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), they are all visible in the introduction to the film Wonder Woman. He also owns the Grimes family photo appearing in an early episode of the TV series The Walking Dead, he uses replicas and costumes to sometimes mix music and cinema in his videos.[6]
On April 21, 2023, he announced on his Instagram the release of his previous musical releases on all music streaming platforms.
In 2024, he announced in an interview for the magazine Shoutout LA that he was preparing his first album entitled Love n Covers which will consist of 14 to 15 songs on the theme of love and romance, the release is scheduled for 2025.[13] He dedicates the album to his grandfather Jean-Jacques who died of COVID-19.[5] Later it is revealed that Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" and P!nk's "Just Give Me a Reason" will be on the album and that it will be released through TuneCore.[14]
On September 23, 2024, in memory of his Australian Shepherd, Merlin, he released a compilation of photos and videos telling the life of Merlin. The video is accompanied by a piano cover of "Photograph" by Ed Sheeran, the cover was arranged by the Filipino pianist John Rod Dondoyano. This cover was intended to be released on the album Love n Covers.[15]
Musical style and influences
[edit]He has no defined musical genre, he can play rock, jazz or even classical music, but his covers are usually pop music. Some of his covers come from video games like Animal Crossing, Mario, Luigi's Mansion and various music like "Firework" by Katy Perry, "Just Give Me a Reason" by P!nk, "Imagine" by John Lennon and "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen.[6]
His greatest inspiration is the American pianist Marcus Veltri, he is also inspired by the American violinist Rob Landes and the Ukrainian violinist Karolina Protsenko.
Philanthropy
[edit]ZephyrMusic is heavily involved in community life and volunteers in several associations including the Restos du Cœur.[3][6]
Personal life
[edit]He had an Australian Shepherd named Merlin who died on September 16, 2024, at the age of 6, he was euthanized because of a tumor which led to several organ dysfunctions and pancreatitis. ZephyrMusic describes a loss of a "family member" which caused "a real void" after "6 years of pure happiness".[15]
ZephyrMusic travels a lot and includes cycling in his daily life.[3][13]
