Jan Suraaj (transl. People's Good Governance) is a political campaign launched by political strategist Prashant Kishor on 2 October 2022 in Bihar, India.[1] The campaign is set to become a political party on 2 October 2024 emerging from a grassroots campaign aimed at transforming the socio-political landscape of Bihar[2], one of India’s most underdeveloped states.[3] The campaign is focused on engaging the public at the grassroots level to address critical issues such as education, health, and employment.
Background

The Jan Suraaj campaign began with a Padyatra (foot march) across various districts in Bihar, where Kishor and his team engaged with local communities to build a connection with the grassroots and gather insights for policy formulation.[4] The campaign was launched to bring transformative political change in the state of Bihar in India.[5]
Plans
[edit]The Jan Suraaj Party is set to contest all 243 Assembly seats in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, challenging the existing political establishment.[6] The party’s strategy includes mobilizing support from various sections of society and promoting a vision of inclusive and sustainable development.[7]
The leadership structure of the party is focused on collective decision-making. The first president of the party is expected to come from marginalized communities.[8][9]
