Jamal Millner(July 4, 1971) is a West Virginia born musician best known for his versatile guitar playing.
Early life
Jamal was given his 1st guitar at the age of 3 years old. As a child, he appeared in a documentary on PBS entitled Banjo Man with Taj Mahal and Uncle John Homer.
Music
Jamal had the fortune of studying with noted scholars and musicians like Nat Reese, Martin Williams (ed. Smithsonian collection of Classic Jazz), Roland Wiggins (noted jazz theoretician), Walter Ross (noted American composer) and John D'earth (respected jazz trumpeter and member of Great American Music Ensemble, Bruce Hornsby Band) among others. In addition to the aforementioned, Jamal has performed with Taj Mahal, R.L. Burnside, Vusi Mahlasela, Buddy Guy, Ali Farka Toure', Dave Matthews Band, John Jackson, Nicholas Payton, and countless others on stage and in the studio. He has toured extensively throughout the US, Africa, Australia and Europe. Jamal has performed at the Montreaux Jazz Festival, Chicago Blues Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, Bonnaroo, Byron Bay Blues Festival, San Francisco Jazz Festival, and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. He was also personally selected by Dave Matthews to edit the guitar and piano transcriptions of the platinum album Crash.
Audio engineering
Jamal is also an accomplished producer, composer and audio engineer with credits on numerous critically acclaimed works in various genres and forms of media. He currently is the audio engineer for Backstory With The American History Guys.
