==Career==
===2002: ''Big Brother 3''===
When she appeared on ''[[Big Brother 2002 (UK)|Big Brother 3]]'' Goody became a target of ridicule in the British [[tabloid press]]<ref>{{cite news |title=The Jade Goody Phenomenon |work=The Independent |url=http://news.independent.co.uk/people/profiles/article2137700.ece |accessdate=2007-10-03}}</ref> for displaying a severe lack of general knowledge for a British native. Goody thought that the English city of [[Cambridge]] was in [[London]].<ref>{{cite news |first=Polly |last=Hudson |url=http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-stories/2008/08/23/life-knocks-jade-goody-and-kerry-katona-down-but-they-always-bounce-back-115875-20707964/ |title=Life knocks Jade Goody and Kerry Katona down but they always bounce back |work=Mirror.co.uk}}</ref> On being told that Cambridge is in [[East Anglia]], she assumed that to be abroad, and referred to it as "East Angular".<ref>{{cite news|url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/tv_and_radio/2055968.stm |title=Jade's wit and wisdom |work=BBC News |date=2002-07-26 |accessdate=2009-02-22}}</ref> She also was criticised by the tabloid press during her time in the ''Big Brother'' house for an evening during which she cavorted drunk and naked <ref>{{cite web |url=http://www.bigbrotheronline.co.uk/celebritybigbrother5/contestants/Jade_Goody.htm |title=Jade Goody Big Brother Contestant Profile - Celebrity Big Brother 5 UK |publisher=Bigbrotheronline.co.uk |accessdate=2009-02-22}}</ref> and also was criticised for "backstabbing".<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-126262/Jade-survive-eviction-vote.html |title=Jade may survive eviction vote |publisher=Dailymail.co.uk |date= |accessdate=2009-02-22}}</ref> She avoided eviction long enough to outlast the media's apparent resentment and become popular. She also provided what was believed to be the first instance of sexual contact in ''Big Brother UK'' history, with a drunken grope with fellow housemate PJ, though it is unclear what sexual acts, if any, took place.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-122801/Jade-PJ-bedroom-antics.html |title=Jade and PJ in bedroom antics |publisher=Dailymail.co.uk |date= |accessdate=2009-02-22}}</ref>

===2002&ndash;2006: Initial fame===
Goody fronted her own reality TV shows<ref>{{cite web |url=http://entertainment.uk.msn.com/tv/news/Article.aspx?cp-documentid=13034874 |title=Jade Goody shows all on TV show |work=-MSN UK |date=2009-01-20 |accessdate=2009-02-22}}</ref> and appeared regularly in [[celebrity]], [[trivia]], and [[gossip]]-oriented women's magazines such as ''[[Heat (magazine)|heat]]'' and ''[[OK!]]''. Goody signed up for the 2006 [[London Marathon]].<ref>{{cite news |last=Sheehanand |first=Kerry |url=http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article45950.ece |title=Jade's Marathon collapse |work=The Sun |date=2006-04-24 |accessdate=2009-02-22}}</ref> She did not finish the course, collapsing after 34&nbsp;km (21 miles) of the 42.195&nbsp;km (26.2 miles) and was taken to the [[Royal London Hospital]] to recover overnight.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://showbiz.sky.com/Jades-Marathon-Hell |title=Jade's Marathon Hell |work=Sky Showbiz |date=2006-04-24 |accessdate=2009-02-22}}</ref> Before the race, Goody described her preparations to [[celebrity chef|TV chef]], [[Gordon Ramsay]]. "I've been eating [[curry]], [[Chinese cuisine|Chinese]] and [[alcoholic beverage|drinking]]." Afterwards, she explained: <blockquote>"I don't really understand miles. I didn't actually know how far it was going to be. I'll be honest, I didn't take it seriously which is really bad of me because there's people out there who actually want to do the marathon. I didn't realise how much commitment the marathon was. I had four training sessions, that's all I did. At most I could run half an hour on a treadmill."<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/showbiz/a32438/jade-goody-admits-marathon-confusion.html |title=Jade Goody admits marathon confusion |work=Digital Spy |date=2006-05-04 |accessdate=2009-02-22}}</ref></blockquote> Goody raised over £550 for her chosen charity, the [[NSPCC]].<ref>[http://www.justgiving.com/jadegoody NSPCC]</ref>

On 2 May 2006, Goody published her [[autobiography]] titled ''Jade: My Autobiography''<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-431282/Disgraced-Goodys-autobiography-axed.html |title=Disgraced Goody's autobiography axed |work=Mail Online |date=2007-01-26 |accessdate=2009-02-22}}</ref> and in June she launched her own fragrance, ''Shh ... ===2007: Celebrity Big Brother 5===
Just before entering the house Goody ranked number 25 in a poll by ''heat'' for the most influential person in the world.<ref name="commentisfree2007"/> Her lifetime earnings were cited to be between £2 million and £8 million by this point.<ref name="dailymail1"/><ref>{{cite news |url=http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-429860/Jade-Goodys-career-over.html |title=Jade Goody's career may be over &#124; |work=Mail Online |date=18 January 2007 |accessdate=2009-02-22}}</ref> On 5 January 2007 Goody, her mother [[Jackiey Budden]], and her boyfriend [[Jack Tweed]] entered the ''Big Brother'' House for ''[[Celebrity Big Brother 2007 (UK)|Celebrity Big Brother 2007]]''.<ref name=imnotracist/>
Upon entering the ''Big Brother'' House, Goody was informed that she and her family (later joined by [[Jermaine Jackson]], [[Shilpa Shetty]] and [[Ken Russell]]) would stay in the main house in luxury, while the 8 other remaining celebrities would become their servants and live in the house next door.<ref>{{cite news |url=http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-426782/Big-Brother-servants-wait-Jade.html |title=Big Brother 'servants' have to wait on Jade |work=Mail Online |date=2007-01-06 |accessdate=2009-02-22}}</ref> Goody was not informed that she and her new family faced an eviction in which the public voted for their favourite to keep in the house. Her mother, Jackiey, was the first to be evicted, on 10 January 2007.<ref>{{cite news |url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6249601.stm |work=BBC News |title=Jackiey first Big Brother evictee}}</ref>

Goody was accused of making derogatory and [[racism|racist]] comments both about and to her fellow housemate [[Shilpa Shetty]], which led to the [[Celebrity Big Brother racism controversy]].<ref>{{cite news |url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6268401.stm |work=BBC News |title=Big Brother row reaches Commons}}</ref> The fact that she was supporting anti-bullying charity [[Act Against Bullying]] during these events compounded her problems.<ref>{{cite news|url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/cbbcnews/hi/newsid_6260000/newsid_6267600/6267675.stm |title=CBBC Newsround &#124; TV/Film &#124; Bullying charity drops Jade Goody |publisher=BBC News |date=2007-01-16 |accessdate=2009-02-22}}</ref> A number of complaints were received by the British broadcasting regulator [[Ofcom]] about the behaviour of [[Jo O'Meara]], [[Danielle Lloyd]] and Goody towards Shetty.<ref>{{cite news |url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/6265127.stm |work=BBC News |title=Ofcom probes Big Brother 'racism'}}</ref> By 20 January, Ofcom received a record of more than 44,500 complaints from members of the public,<ref name=imnotracist>{{cite news |url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6281223.stm |work=BBC News |title=I'm not racist, says TV's Goody}}</ref><ref>{{cite news | title=Big Brother sponsor suspends deal | publisher=BBC | date=18 January 2007 | url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6274881.stm |accessdate=24 January 2007}}</ref> while Channel 4 received an additional 3,000 complaints.<ref>{{cite web | work=politics.guardian.co.uk |title=Racism, ratings and reality TV: now Big Brother creates a diplomatic incident |url=http://politics.guardian.co.uk/foreignaffairs/story/0,,1992924,00.html | accessdate=18 January 2007}}</ref>

Among Goody's comments were: "I've seen how she goes in and out of people's arseholes",<ref>[http://www.ibnlive.com/videos/31466/slurs-against-shilpa-continue-on-show.html CNN - IBN News] - ''slurs against shilpa continue on show <nowiki>'racism'</nowiki>''</ref> as well as suggesting Shetty "makes [her] skin crawl".<ref>{{cite news |url=http://showbiz.sky.com/showbiz/article/0,,50001-1247791,00.html |work=Sky Showbiz |title=Has Jade Lost It?}}</ref> She also referred to Shetty as 'Shilpa Fuckawalla' and 'Shilpa [[Papadum|Poppadom]]'. Goody said afterwards: "She is Indian, thinking of an Indian name and only thing I could think of was Indian food. Wasn't racial at all. It was not to offend any Indian out there."<ref>{{cite news |url=http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/entertainment/filmandtv/s/233/233670_celeb_bb_jade_calls_housemate_shilpa_poppadom.html |title=Celeb BB: Jade calls housemate 'Shilpa Fuckawhalia, Shilpa Poppadom' |work=Manchester Evening News}}</ref> Cleo Rocos to Shetty: "I don't think there's anything racist in it." Shetty: "It is, I'm telling you."<ref>{{cite news |url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6282883.stm |work=BBC News |title=Big Brother controversy in quotes}}</ref> However Shetty later changed her opinion stating "I don't feel there was any racial discrimination happening from Jade's end... I think that there are a lot of insecurities from her end but it's definitely not racial," Shetty said in the show's diary room.<ref>{{cite news |url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6274881.stm |title=Shilpa statement}}</ref> The incident created an international outcry, gaining heavy coverage in the Indian media. [[Gordon Brown]], then British [[Chancellor of the Exchequer]], who was visiting India at the time, condemned the programme on the grounds that he is against anything which might damage the perception that Britain is a country of tolerance.<ref>{{cite news |url=http://media.guardian.co.uk/site/story/0,,1992450,00.html |title=Big Brother row goes global |work=The Guardian |date=17 January 2007}}</ref> In a statement on 17 January Channel 4 defended the programme against charges "of overt racism or racial abuse".<ref>{{cite news |url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6272585.stm |work=BBC News |title=Channel 4 denies Brother 'racism'}}</ref> Goody was evicted from the Big Brother house on 19 January 2007 receiving 82% of the vote when up against Shetty.<ref>{{cite news|url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6283447.stm |title=Jade 'faces fight to save career' |work=BBC News |date=2007-01-20 |accessdate=2009-02-22}}</ref>

On 19 January, she was evicted. Channel 4 banned crowds gathering outside the house to greet Goody and cancelled a press conference with her.<ref>{{cite web |url=http://www.ndtv.com/template/template.asp?template=racismrow&slug=Shilpa+stays+on+in+%3Ci%3EBig+Brother%3C%2Fi%3E&id=21207&callid=0&category=National NDTV.com |title=Shilpa Shetty stays on in Big Brother}}</ref> In her interview with [[Davina McCall]] immediately afterwards, she stated that she was "disgusted with [her]self" after watching a video of the alleged bullying.<ref>Celebrity Big Brother Live, 2007-01-19 on Channel 4</ref>
Her much publicised return to the Big Brother house was branded "a terrible decision" by publicist [[Max Clifford]], who also said "it looks like she has ruined a very lucrative career".<ref>{{cite news |url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/low/entertainment/6276279.stm |title=Max Clifford comment |work=BBC News}}</ref>

Ultimately Channel 4 received a rebuke from Ofcom over its handling of the Celebrity Big Brother race row that resulted in more than 54,000 complaints.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1044666/Jade-Goody-surrounded-security-arrives-Mumbai-appear-Indias-Big-Brother.html |title=Jade Goody is surrounded by security as she arrives in Mumbai to appear on India's Big Brother |work=Mail Online |date=2008-08-14 |accessdate=2009-02-22}}</ref> It emerged that there were various other, unbroadcast incidents of alleged racism.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2007/may/25/ofcom.broadcasting |title=C4 to air Big Brother racism apologies &#124; Media |publisher=The Guardian |date= |accessdate=2009-02-22}}</ref> They included a late night "limerick game" between O'Meara, Lloyd, Goody and her boyfriend Jack Tweed in which the use of the word "Paki" was allegedly implied but not said.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/tv_and_radio/article1837932.ece |title=Big Brother in racism ‘cover-up’ |work=Times Online |date= |accessdate=2009-02-22}}</ref> In the others, Goody speculated on whether Lloyd used "the p-word" and Goody referred to the Bollywood actress as "Shilpa Pashwa whoever you fucking are".<ref>{{citenews|first=Owen|last=Gibson|url=http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2007/may/25/ofcom.broadcasting|title=C4 to air Big Brother racism apologies|work=The Guardian|date=2007-05-27|accessdate=2009-02-21}}</ref>

===2007&ndash;2009: Return to the public eye===
Goody lent her face and name to a cookbook, ''Christmas Dinner with Jade Goody'', which specialised in traditional [[Christmas]] food. The book was released with a DVD featuring Goody and her two sons.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.watchitdoit.com//Default.aspx?&T=69|title=Jade's Xmas Dinner/|publisher=Watch It - Do It}}</ref>

In late 2007 and early 2008, several public polls put Goody in an unfavourable light.<ref>{{cite news|title=Socialite recognised for her true talent|url=http://www.nowmagazine.co.uk/celeb_news/SEE_VIDEO_Paris_Hilton_named_Most_Pointless_Celebrity_article_165779.html|publisher=[[Now magazine]]|date=2007-12-01|accessdate=2008-04-13}}</ref><ref>{{cite news|title=Jade Goody and Pete Doherty top worst dinner party guest list|url=http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/entertainment/entertainment-news/2008/04/10/jade-goody-and-pete-doherty-top-worst-dinner-party-guest-list-86908-20378005/|publisher=''[[Daily Record (Scotland)|Daily Record]]''|date=2008-04-10|accessdate=2008-04-11}}</ref> In early 2008 she purchased a brand new [[Bentley Continental GTC]] sports car worth £130,000.<ref>{{cite news |author=Harvey, Oliver |url=http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article800136.ece |title=Big Brother's Jade Goody is 'Beadled' by The Sun as a tribute on funeral day of TV comedian Jeremy Beadle |work=The Sun |date=14 Feb 2008}}</ref>

In March 2008, the ''[[Daily Mail]]'' reported Goody had become involved in "vicious fight with a female partygoer at an Essex nightclub before turning her rage onto a security guard".<ref>{{cite news|title=Goody turns bad AGAIN: Jade caught up in ugly brawl in Essex nightclub|url=http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/showbiz/showbiznews.html?in_article_id=543389&in_page_id=1773|publisher=[[Daily Mail]] |date=2008-03-25 |accessdate=2008-04-11}}</ref>

Goody stated in April 2008 that she would be releasing her second perfume range, ''Controversial''.<ref>{{cite news|title=Guess what Jade’s called her new perfume…|url=http://www.heatworld.com/Article/5532/Jade+Goody/Guess+what+Jade%e2%80%99s+called+her+new+perfume%e2%80%a6|publisher=''[[Heat (magazine)|Heat World]]''|date=2008-05-08 |accessdate=2008-05-08}}</ref>

In 2008, Goody appeared in the Indian version of Big Brother, ''[[Bigg Boss (Season 2)|Bigg Boss]]''. She was rumoured to have been offered £100,000 to take part.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://uk.tv.yahoo.com/18082008/19/jade-goody-joins-indian-big-brother.html|title=Jade Goody joins Indian Big Brother|date=August 18, 2008|publisher=Yahoo. ==Personal life==
Prior to Goody's entry into the Big Brother house, she was a dental nurse.<ref name="entertainment1"/> Goody lived with her sons in Upshire, a village in [[Essex]]. Her father, Andrew Robert Goody (February 1963<ref>[http://www.findmypast.com/BirthsMarriagesDeaths.jsp Births and Deaths England and Wales 1984-2006]</ref> - August 2005), who was of mixed race,<ref> {{cite news |url=http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-430263/Jade-black-roots-Grandpa-Winston.html |title=Jade has black roots through Grandpa Winston |work=Daily Mail}}</ref> was a drug addict and habitual criminal, who served prison sentences including a four-year term for robbery.<ref name="entertainment1"/> He and Goody's mother, Jackiey Budden (born April 1958), split up when Goody was two, and he became estranged from Goody, whilst Goody's mother brought her up in Bermondsey. Goody's father died of a drug overdose in [[Bournemouth]], aged 42.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.nowmagazine.co.uk/celebrity-news/271497/jade-goody-visits-dad-s-grave-for-first-time/1/ |title=Jade Goody visits dad's grave for first time |publisher=Now Magazine |date=2008-08-27 |accessdate=2009-02-22}}</ref> Goody had a relationship with TV presenter and fellow reality television regular [[Jeff Brazier]], the father of her two sons, both of whom were born in [[Harlow]], [[Essex]]: Bobby Jack Brazier, born in 2003, and Freddie Brazier, the following year. In 2005, Goody had a six month relationship with footballer [[Ryan Amoo]].<ref>{{cite news |url=http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article110005.ece |title=Love life is not so Goody |work=The Sun}}</ref>

She was subsequently in a relationship with [[Celebrity Big Brother 2007#Jack Tweed|Jack Tweed]] (born 1987, [[London Borough of Waltham Forest|Waltham Forest]], [[Greater London]]), who appeared alongside her on ''[[Celebrity Big Brother 2007#Jack Tweed|Celebrity Big Brother]]''. ===Cancer===
Goody had a number of health scares throughout the 2000s. In 2002, shortly before her ''Big Brother 3'' appearance, she had a [[cervical smear test]] which revealed [[Cervical squamous intraepithelial neoplasia 1|abnormal cells]], a possible indicator of cancer.<ref name = Sun2002>{{cite news |url=http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/big_brother/archive/article186214.ece |title=Jade: my mum the lesbian |work=The Sun}}</ref> She was later tested for ovarian cancer in 2004 and bowel cancer in 2006, but was given the all-clear on each occasion.<ref name = Sun2002/><ref name = Sun>{{cite news |url=http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article1575717.ece |title=Jade Goody has cancer |work=The Sun}}</ref> She underwent hospital tests in early August 2008 after her fourth cancer scare. She had already collapsed four times. The test results confirmed she had [[cervical cancer]]; she was told of this on 19 August 2008 while in the Indian version of ''Big Brother'', called ''[[Bigg Boss (Indian TV series)|Bigg Boss]]''.<ref name = Sun/> Her spokesperson said, "It looks like her cancer is at an early stage but we will have to wait until she gets back to Britain and sees a specialist and has more tests".<ref>{{cite news |url=http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1046621/Big-Brother-star-Jade-Goody-cancer--told-TV.html |title=Big Brother star Jade Goody 'devastated' after being told she has cancer - in the Diary Room |work=Daily Mail}}</ref>

On 1 September 2008 it was reported that Goody's cancer was "advanced and life-threatening" and that she would be having an operation followed by [[chemotherapy]].<ref>{{cite news|url=http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/Showbiz-News/Jade-Goody-Has-Advanced-And-Life-Threatening-Cervical-Cancer-Court-Hears/Article/200809115090929?lpos=Showbiz%2BNews_2&lid=ARTICLE_15090929_Jade%2BGoody%2BHas%2B%2527Advanced%2BAnd%2BLife-Threatening%2527%2BCervical%2BCancer%252C%2BCourt%2BHears|title=Jade's Cancer 'Life-Threatening'|publisher=[[Sky News]]|date=2008-09-01}}</ref> Doctors warned that her survival chance could be as low as 65%.<ref>{{cite news|url=http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/Health/Jade-Goody-Cancer-Health-celebrity-reality-star/Article/200809115092982|title=Jade Faces Further Cancer Tests|publisher=[[Sky News]]|date=2008-09-04}}</ref> Further tests, and a [[radical hysterectomy]],<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.rte.ie/arts/2008/0912/goodyj.html |title=RTÉ.ie Entertainment: Jade Goody has eight-hour operation |publisher=Rte.ie |date=2008-09-12 |accessdate=2009-02-22}}</ref> "went well" according to her publicist, and Goody began a course of [[chemotherapy]] and [[radiotherapy]].<ref>{{cite news | url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7613861.stm | title=Surgery on Jade Goody 'went well' | publisher=BBC News | date=2008-09-13 | accessdate=2008-09-13 }}</ref>

In an interview with Irish broadcasting company [[RTÉ]] she admitted having started planning her funeral.<ref>{{cite news|url=http://www.rte.ie/arts/2008/1008/goodyj.html|title=Jade Goody talks about planning funeral|publisher=RTE|date=2008-10-08}}</ref> Furthermore, Goody told the broadcaster that she was losing all her hair and had decided not to explain her illness to her children.<ref>{{cite news|url=http://www.rte.ie/arts/2008/1128/goodyj.html|title=Goody says she's losing her hair|publisher=RTE|date=2008-10-08}}</ref>

On 4 February 2009 [[Max Clifford]], Goody's publicist, confirmed that Goody's [[cancer]] had spread to her [[liver]], [[bowel]] and [[groin]]. Therefore, the previous estimate of a 40% chance of survival was withdrawn and she underwent treatment to prolong her life. On 7 February, Clifford reported that Goody had undergone emergency surgery in London to remove a tumour on her bowel.<ref>{{cite news | url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7876593.stm |title=Goody undergoes emergency surgery | publisher=BBC | date=2009-02-07 |accessdate=2009-02-07 }}</ref>

On 14 February, Clifford confirmed media reports that doctors at the [[Royal Marsden Hospital]] in London<ref>{{cite news |url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7890002.stm |title=Jade Goody 'has months to live' | publisher=BBC |date=2009-02-14 |accessdate=2009-02-15}}</ref> had declared her cancer as terminal and that she could be dead within weeks, and at the most was unlikely to survive more than a few more months.<ref>{{cite news |author= |url=http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/celebritynews/4617493/Jade-Goody-Cancer-hit-celebrity-has-just-months-to-live.html |title=Jade Goody: Cancer-hit celebrity has just months to live |publisher=Telegraph |date=2009-02-14 |accessdate=2009-02-22}}</ref> He stated "She was informed yesterday that tragically, she's terminally ill. She was obviously devastated."<ref>{{cite web|author=Feb 14, 2009 |url=http://www.google.com/hostednews/ukpress/article/ALeqM5jlxhKqoP09yfvTEfwS8PY9ESyXBw |title=The Press Association: Jade Goody plans to wed Jack Tweed |publisher=Google.com |date=2009-02-14 |accessdate=2009-02-22}}</ref> Goody then began drawing up a will and making plans for the future care of her two sons.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1144443/Jade-Goody-months-live.html|title=Daily Mail}}</ref>

On 5 March 2009, Goody requested to be [[christened]] from her bed at the Royal Marsden Hospital;<ref name="Enough">{{cite news |author= |url=http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/showbiz/article-23658031-details/%27Short+time+before+Jade%27s+suffering+ends%27/article.do|title=Short time before Jade's suffering ends|publisher=This is London |date=2009-03-05 |accessdate=2009-03-05}}</ref> on 7 March she and her sons were christened.<ref name="christening">{{cite news |author= |url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7930207.stm|title='Emotional' christening for Goody|publisher=BBC |date=2009-03-07 |accessdate=2009-03-07}}</ref> Clifford confirmed that this would be Goody's last public appearance, and that she had already said her goodbyes to her family. He stated, "We're hoping and praying that Jade pulls through, but the fact of the matter is that she now only has a short time to live."<ref name="Enough" /> He also confirmed that doctors had said the next 24 hours were crucial to assessing how long it will be before she dies, but that she had only a very short time left regardless. Her husband Jack Tweed was allowed to extend his curfew so he could spend a final night with his wife before she said her final goodbyes to her family.<ref name="Enough" />

When news broke that Goody's cancer was terminal, medical authorities in the UK began reporting a surge in requests from women, particularly younger women, for screening for cervical cancer. This reversed a trend which had seen demand for screening decline overall in the past decade, with the highest decline being among women aged 25-29.<ref>{{cite news |url=http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2009/feb/17/cancer-tests-jade-goody|title=Cancer tests go up after Jade Goody diagnosis|publisher=The Guardian| date=2009.02.17}}</ref>

As a result of the publicity surrounding Goody's illness, on 13 March 2009 the UK Government agreed to review its policy of not offering screening for cervical cancer until the age of 25 in England (it is 20 in the rest of the UK). Goody issued a press release the same day, saying that she was "immensely proud" that she had helped prompt the review.<ref>{{cite news |author= |url=http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-wellbeing/health-news/goody-effect-forces-ministers-to-review-cancer-screening-policy-1644903.html|title=Goody effect forces ministers to review cancer screening policy|publisher=The Independent |date=2009-03-14}}</ref>
