In June and July 2024, American YouTuber and streamer Darren Watkins Jr., better known as IShowSpeed, toured 17 countries in Europe on livestream.
Throughout the tour, Watkins experienced the local culture, met fans and did activities and stunts in various countries. Fans followed him throughout the tour. In his stream in Albania on 20 June, Watkins met Prime Minister Edi Rama.[1]
The tour was highly successful and received a total of 2.5 billion views.[2]
Background
[edit]The tour was held during the UEFA Euro 2024, which was being held in Germany. Watkins is a major fan of soccer, particularly Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, who he has previously met. Watkins attended and watched several Portugal games on the tour.[citation needed]
Incidents
[edit]In his first stream in Norway on 4 July, Watkins was mobbed by fans and injured his ankle whilst performing Ronaldo's "Siuuu!" celebration, which (along with backflips) he commonly performs on his tours. Watkins was taken to hospital for an X-ray.[3] After initially saying he would not return, he did eventually return on 17 July. However, unlike his first stream which was entirely filmed in Oslo, Watkins opted to start the stream in a rural town before making his way back to the city of Oslo.[citation needed]
Map
[edit]Impact
[edit]The tour was highly successful, accumulating over 2.5 billion views in total.[2]
Aftermath
[edit]Following the success of the European tour, Watkins later announced his upcoming tour of Southeast Asia in September 2024. His tour of Southeast Asia is the most successful of any English-speaking streamer to date.[4]
