Hipparchus (cavalry officer)

Hipparchus, anglicized hipparch (Greek: ἵππαρχος, romanizedhipparchos), was the title of an ancient Greek cavalry officer, commanding a hipparchia (unit of about 500 horsemen); two such units were commanded by an epihipparchos.[1]
