A high residue diet is diet high in dietary fiber. The main symptom of high residue diet is daily stool. Basically high residue diet is just a menu high in fruits and vegetables.

Example of the high residue diet

Bananas and apples for breakfast, and buckwheat, beans and rye bread for lunch or dinner, (but not less than 25 grams of fiber a day).

General guidelines

Adults: natural foods which consist at least: 25 to 30 grams of dietary fiber.

A child’s need for fiber is based on age: 10 grams plus the child's age. For example, an 8-year-old child would need (10 grams + 8 years) = 18 grams per day.
