Biography
2005: Debut
Heo Young Saeng debuted as a member of SS501 on 8 June 2005 under DSP Media formerly known as DSP Entertainment.
in 2006, Heo hosted radio programme SS501's Youngstreet on Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS) with fellow member Park Jung Min from 1 May 2006 to August 2006. Fellow member Kim Kyu Jong took over as DJ when Heo left the programme on 21 August 2006, due to a throat condition requiring laryngeal surgery.[1]
In 2008, due to 2 members' busy schedules, Jung Min performing in a Korean production of the musical "Grease" and Hyun Joong filming drama "Boys Over Flowers", SS501's album which was originally due for release in late 2008, was pushed back to July 2009.
Instead, a sub unit of SS501 was formed, with Heo Young Saeng as the leader of this sub unit. The other two members in this unit are Kim Kyu Jong and Kim Hyung Joon. This unit group was initially named "Triple S" but they changed it back to "SS501", reason being that they are 5 members always as 1. The unit group released a special project album "U R Man" (released on November 25, 2008).
Young Saeng composed and wrote his solo song, '사랑인거죠 (Is it Love?)' which is also included in the special project album. This song was written during SS501's activities in Japan in 2007. He is the first member to have both composed and wrote lyrics for a song. He also wrote the lyrics for his own part of the fan song "Green Peas", included in SS501's second mini album "Rebirth". He composed the song "영원토록 (For Eternity/Until Forever/Forever)", included in SS501's mini album "Destination". "영원토록 (For Eternity/Until Forever/Forever)" was originally a wedding song but he feel sad whenever he hears the song so he decided not to call it as a wedding song.
After finishing their promotional activities for "U R Man", they continued their activities to promote "내 머리가 나빠서 (Because I am stupid)", a song they sang for the OST of "Boys Before Flowers". This song was very well-received due to the success of the drama. They won the "Song of the month (Feb)" award with this song at the 32nd Cyworld Digital Music Awards (28 Mar 09) with about 110,000 downloads for BGM at www.cyworld.com.
2010: Solo artist
In June 2010, upon the expiration of Heo's contract with DSP Media, he signed with B2M Entertainment, the agency of former DSP Media songstress Lee Hyori, along with fellow band member Kim Kyu Jong, to embark on his solo career.[2]
Heo was scheduled to launch his solo singing career on 28 April 2011, but had to postpone because he pulled the ligaments on his right hand during dance practice.[3] He was also schedule to guest star on SBS's Good Sunday variety show Running Man, on 8 May 2011, due to his injury, he instead appeared briefly to hand out a mission.[4]
His debut solo mini album, Let It Go was releasd on 12 May 2011, which features Kim Kyu Jong and Hyuna of girl group 4minute.[5] On 9 November 2011, Heo will preform along with other Korean and Japanese artists, at the Seoul Tokyo Music Festival 2011 at Saitama Super Arena, Japan.[6] From 3 November to 18 December 2011 Heo will make his theatrical musical debut in The Three Musketeers.
