Headstrong is the debut album by the American actress and singer Ashley Tisdale. The album was released on February 6, 2007 in the United States via Warner Bros. Records, debuting at #5 on the Billboard 200 and selling 64,000 copies in the first week.[1] The album was certified Gold in the U.S. with 500,000 copies shipped.[2]. The album has sold more than 1,500,000 million of copies worldwide.
Album information
The album was recorded during fall 2006 at different studios like Decoy Studios, Chalice Studios, Rocket Carousel Studios and others. Tisdale co-wrote four songs for the album: "Not Like That", "Suddenly", "Over It" and the bonus track "It's Life". She recorded cover songs by artist Tata Young ("Don't Touch" - originally title "Zoom"), Sandy Molling ("Goin' Crazy" - originally title "All Eyes on You") and Sarah Hudson ("Unlove You"). Tisdale was gliding to release the album at the end of 2006 but for the recordings of her series The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and promotions of High School Musical, the album was pushed back for the beginning of 2007, being released in February 6.
The album generated mixed reviews, receiving a 3/5 on the website Allmusic.[3] Oye! Awards (Premios Oye! in Spanish) nominated Tisdale in the category International Breakthrough Artist of 2007.[4] The album was nominated as #6 on "Album of The Year" by Billboard Readers' Choice.[5]
Promotion
Tisdale promoted her album in the High School Musical: The Concert tour, performing in different countries and singing three songs from the album.[6] Ashley performed "Be Good to Me" and "He Said She Said in different American TV programs during the promotion of the album. Later, Tisdale started her first solo tour called Headstrong Tour Across America in different malls of the United States.[7] The music video for "He Said She Said" promoted Eckō Red.
On November 13, 2007, Tisdale released her first music DVD, There's Something About Ashley, with a three-song trilogy comprised by the music videos "He Said She Said", "Not Like That" and "Suddenly" and a documentary about the Headstrong album creation.[8]
The album was re-released for the first time in Christmas, 2007 in a Holiday Edition with the standard CD, the DVD There's Something About Ashley in a digipack format, and some other merchandise.[9] The album was re-released again in a limited Deluxe Edition format, released only in Germany with the DVD.[10]
Some promotional singles were released from the album. The songs "Goin' Crazy" and "Headstrong" were released as exclusive singles on Radio Disney,[11] "We'll Be Together" was released as a promo single to promote the DVD High School Musical: The Concert.
