Forever the Sickest Kids

Forever the Sickest Kids, often abbreviated as FTSK, is a rock band from Dallas, Texas signed to Universal Motown Records Group. In issue 228 of Alternative Press, the group was named the number one underground band in the "22 Best Underground Bands (That Likely Won't Stay Underground for Long)". Their first EP, Television Off, Party On, was released on July 3, 2007. Their debut album, Underdog Alma Mater, was later released on April 29, 2008[3].

History

Formation (2006)

Marc Stewart (guitar) and Kyle Burns (drums) are step brothers[4]. Stewart met Kent Garrison (keyboard) in high school. Then, when Garrison went to college, he met up with Jonathan Cook (vocals) and Austin Bello (bass guitar). For a while, Bello played with Caleb Turman in a band called Been Bradley[5], while everyone else from Forever the Sickest Kids played with The Flipside. In late 2006, both of those groups reached a creative standstill, and the band was officially formed.

"Hey Brittany" and EPs (2007)

While browsing PureVolume, lead singer Jonathan Cook accidentally spent $350 that the band didn't have to receive a front page placement of a song that they also didn't have. For this reason, they went into the studio and wrote "Hey Brittany", then recorded it with their producer Geoff Rockwell in a matter of days. Since it was first posted, "Hey Brittany" has garnered many Internet plays and triggered a bidding war among eight labels.[citation needed] On April 24, 2007, Universal Motown emerged victorious, and released the band's Television Off, Party On EP on July 3. The releases of The Sickest Warped Tour EP and the Hot Party Jamz EP would soon follow.[citation needed]

Underdog Alma Mater (2008)

The band's first single, "Whoa Oh! (Me vs. Everyone)", was released on April 1, 2008. Their debut album Underdog Alma Mater was later released on April 29. The band supported All Time Low and The Rocket Summer on the 2008 Alternative Press tour from March 14 to May 2. The band played with Metro Station, The Cab, Danger Radio, and The Maine on their first headlining tour, and later performed on the 2008 Vans Warped Tour. They appeared on Late Night with Conan O'Brien on June 12 performing their single "Whoa Oh! (Me vs. Everyone)". Their second single, "She's a Lady" was released on July 14. The band headed to Tokyo, Japan to perform at the annual Summer Sonic Festival. In late September, the band undertook a brief headlining tour in the UK, after Cobra Starship, the original headliners, post-poned their tour. The band also held the Sassy Back tour throughout October and November with Cobra Starship, Hit the Lights, and Sing it Loud.

Philadelphia Police Incident

After a performance at the Theatre of the Living Arts in Philadelphia Sunday on April 26 2009 on the Bamboozle Road Tour alongside We The Kings, and Mercy Mercedes[6] members of various bands on the tour, as well as fans and the crew were involved in an incident with the Philadelphia Police Department, according to several source police officers arrived approaching members of the bands stating that all under 18 year olds must leave and go home. The bands were loading equipment onto their buses however Police told them they could not park where they were and were told to move, Mercy Mercedes' bus was then given a ticket before Caleb Turman of Forever The Sickest Kids was then threatened by an officer with Expandable Telescopic Steel Baton, being told to "go inside". Members of the bands asked for further time to load their equipment however this was denied, adding to this they were told their trailer tags were invalid and they needed proof of insurance, leading to a total of four tickets. At this point Trevor Fair, manager of We The Kings arrived, however was told to go back inside also, then after trying to return the police chased and arrested Trevor Fair inside the venue, he was then reportedly 'dragged' back outside, before another man, a merchandise sales person on the tour came out to take the Police officers details, however was told again to go inside, in the process of which "in discussion the police lost patience and literally beat him back inside the door, then to the ground, and arrested him for 'assaulting a police officer' when he did not touch them nor gave them any incentive to think they were in danger".[7]

The aftermath of the incident reportedly left the merch salesmen Chris hospitalized with three others from the tour in jail according to a twitter update from Travis Clark of We The Kings. The Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper interviewed four people involved in the incident on April 28, and The Philadelphia Police Advisory Commission is looking into allegations that three men were beaten, "If a complaint is filed, it will be investigated thoroughly," Philadelphia police spokesperson Lieut. Frank Vanore has stated on the incident. No official complaint has been filled by any of those involved as of yet, however a number of blog posts have been removed due to legal proceedings taking place with the investigation. A number of videos were uploaded onto Youtube and Myspace showing the incident.
