The explanation on the website of the project is as follows:
<blockquote>
The Fordhall Community Land Initiative is an industrial and Provident Society with charitable status. It is currently owned by over 8000 shareholders from across the world. This society owns all of Fordhall Farm.

The Hollins family have farmed the land here for generations but only ever as tenants. Without the ability to purchase the farm themselves, they have placed it into community ownership.<ref>[http://www.fordhallfarm.com/ Fordhall Farm Community Land Initiative website]</ref>
</blockquote>

The project has widespread support from people such as Alan Titchmarch and Prunella Scales. Volunteer weekends for part owners are run several times a year.

The farm is at {{gbmapping|SJ647328}} next to the [[Market Drayton]] factory of [[Müller (company)|Müller Dairy]].
