Work of the Federal Government?

[edit]

How can this be a work of the US Federal Government, when the photo was taken by the North Vietnamese? Adam McMaster (talk) 13:52, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reduce?

[edit]

An admin has marked this image with a "non-free reduce" tag. But the image we have is only 47Kb, which is already low resolution. So why the tag? Wasted Time R (talk) 12:05, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was wondering the same thing. It's already hard to make out McCain in the image; if we reduce its size it won't be worth keeping it. Adam McMaster (talk) 13:30, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

First, one must assume that the original vietnamese government meant for the picture to be reproduced in news media, or they would not have sent it. Thus, I believe Wikipedia can fairly be said to be using it with permission.

Second, Vietnam has only been party to the Berne convention since 2004. Doesn't that mean that other countries are not bound to respect its copyrights from before that date?

  • Permission to use on Wikipedia equates to non-free license here. We don't accept such media in that form. As to the original copyrights, I don't know. The image itself doesn't seem to know. --Hammersoft (talk) 21:33, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
