This is not Siphonaria sirius
[edit]The original description by Pilsbry (1894), accessed via WoRMS at https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/page/12596971#page/27/mode/1up, states the following: "siphon occupying a single rib, never a double one" (page 9). This specimen shows a double rib, seen from the top pointing towards the top right, and shows the siphonal groove within the double rib, seen from the bottom pointing towards the top left. The spaces between the ribs on the top should also be "dark brown, radially finely ribbed" according to Pilsbry. This specimen does have radial ribs, but it has bands of color ranging from tan to brown, creating an irregular striped pattern most prominently visible at the upper left of the top of the shell. Based on this evidence, this is definitely not Siphonaria sirius. Rlucine (talk) 02:10, 30 May 2024 (UTC)
