Copyright?

I fail to see how this image falls under copyright, as the entity that created it (the state of Rhodesia) no longer exists. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.190.39.131 (talk) 23:38, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think the copyright status of this image is questionable. The photograph is believed to have been taken by one William Higham, a freelance photographer who was active in Rhodesia during the UDI period. He was very much in favour with the Rhodesian establishment and took a lot of official photographs of government ministers and functions.

Higham's current whereabouts are unknown, but when last heard of he was in Brisbane, Australia. The e-mail address highamw@ozemail.com.au has been given for him. Although, messages to that address are not answered. Many of Higham's photographs are used to illustrate web pages and articles. The term "permission pending" is commonly used to describe copyright status of his images.
