Has anyone else noticed the two symbols of fascism at either side of the presidential podium? MH1987 (talk) 23:39, 12 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The fasces is not exclusively a symbol of fascism. Italian fascists named their political ideology after the fasces and adopted that symbol, but the fasces as a symbol of power (especially "strength through unity"), authority and the rule of law long pre-dates that use. The current Seal of the United States Senate incorporates two crossed fasces; it has been in use since 1886, when Benito Mussolini was about three years old.
