Provenance and file naming and description issues

[edit]
File:Aboriginal Art Australia(2).jpg

The uploader has given no details of the provenance for this image, but it is clearly part of the same site pictured in File:Aboriginal Art Australia(2).jpg, for which the caption reads:

Aboriginal Rock Art, Anbangbang Rock Shelter, Kakadu National Park, Australia
According to ozoutback.com.au, it shows Namondjok, a Creation Ancestor, with his wife Barrginj below, the Lightning Man Namarrgon to the right, and a group of men and women with ceremonial headdresses underneath. These Spirit figures were repainted between 1962 and 1964, the last major rock painting at the Anbangbang Art site in Nourlangie Rock.

The image has a misleading name (Koala rupestre.jpg) - although this rock art site is located 1,300 from the nearest koala habitat, it has been used to illustrate the koala article on several wikis (English, French, Turkish).

This is clearly an error by the uploader, reflecting his/her subjective opinion.

There is no indication from the now-departed uploader's user and contributions pages that s/he ever visited Australia, and together with the subjective interpretation, this does cast some doubt whether the uploader took the original photo, and thus copyright issues may also be involved.

I have already removed the photo from the English WP Koala article, and will shortly do so also in the French and Turkish WPs, and then request that the filename be changed to something more appropriate. Bahudhara (talk) 01:51, 27 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
