basic info
[edit]Traffic warning sign ( USA type OM4-3 ) "end of roadway" also known as "dead end stop" nicknamed "the red splat" which is typically placed directly in the path of traffic. This sign differs from the Dead End sign which is placed at the beginning of a street to give advance warning; End of Roadway goes at the actual end of the road --usually on the terminal guardrail perpendicular to traffic flow. The sign is in the "Object Marker" (OM) family of warning signs (which includes the vertical rectangles with angled warning stripes used on bridge and tunnel roadside obstacles). End of Roadway variant OM4-1 includes nine circular reflectors within the red field. Standard End of Roadway signs bear no wording. They sometimes appear at the end of sidewalks (especially raised sidewalks where continuing at speed might lead to injury) and bike trails, and also on gates which cross a roadway and close it to traffic Cramyourspam (talk) 03:01, 7 October 2012 (UTC)
