Isn't this a very clear case of copyright theft from the Bildarchiv Preußischer Kulturbesitz (the Visual Archive of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation)? Isn't removing a watermark placed on an image by a cultural institution for copyright protection actually a criminal offense? Obviously, it is a civil violation as well, especially since the source of the copyright is clearly a cultural organization that would be motivated to protect its intellectual property. But isn't taking an image out of book that is clearly under copyright protection (published in 2002), removing a watermark from the cultural institution (where the publisher probably purchased the rights to the image that is watermarked) that would have to been done in the last 10 years or so based on the availability of the technology, a case of copyright theft (infringement this is not since the theft was deliberate and conscious)? This is a deliberate, intentional act of stealing... Stevenmitchell (talk) 18:09, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Probably not, unless there is a demonstrable artistic element to the reproduction of the engraving. commons:Category:Johann Michael Voltz contains a few other images too, which should all be out of copyright. The Amos Elon book reference doesn't seem to be relevant to the source of the image, which is apparently the germanhistorydocs.ghi-dc.org website, as you indicate. Any concerns should be taken to Commons. Cheers. -- Trevj (talk · contribs) 08:14, 17 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
