The image shown on this page as the colour patch for the 39th Bn specifically says it is for the "1921-42; 'Aust Inf Bns' " however the colour patch shown is the patch for the 39th Bn from the First World War (WWI). The correct patch can be seen on the following page http://www.malleebull.com/39btn/ it is also visible but less clearly on the official Bn Association newsletter (an old copy is seen at http://www.malleebull.com/39btn/Good-Guts.pdf) another reference to the correct patch can be seen at http://www.39battalion.org/ (which Wikipedia quotes as an external link from the 39th Bn page) I believe that most Australian infantry units in WWII had the blue-gray around their patch to distinguish the difference from the WWI units. This can be seen on the following 2nd AIF colour patch page http://www.defence.gov.au/Army/ahu/images/Colour_Patches/Colour_Patches_2AIF_Infantry_Bde16_19.htm but the same web site does not show the border on any of the Militia Bn patches for WWII but simply shows the same patch for both WWI & WWII units. 203.123.86.49 (talk) 10:21, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
