Could this map be updated? E.g. cartoons were printed in Finland and Belarus
- True. Finland is also only western country where publishing has caused criminal investigations. Finland also published new cartoon in magazine "Kaltio".
- The original cartoons have not been printed in Finland (despite what Helsingin sanomat said they would do, if the muslim worldn't tone down the retoric), only photos of people holding other papers with the cartoons have been printed (so you can't see the cartoons clearly). The Prime minister protested a web site that published them, so maybe Finland should be in the protest category instead? 213.243.181.216 00:27, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
Cartoons now also published in Costa Rica, South Korea and Angola Bombshell 10:28, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
Where is this diagram coming from?
[edit]The data seem inaccurate...there weren't many printings in the US, and Denmark has to have had more...where are you getting your info from? Gruu 05:52, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
Here, here. And seems to contradict the main artical (in other printings section) "Notable for a lack of republication of the cartoons were major newspapers in the USA[40] and the United Kingdom,[41] where editorials covered the story without including them. Several newspapers were closed and editors fired or arrested for their decision or intention to re-publish the cartoons." Should USA be a similar colour to UK or just darker. And/Or is it the main artical that needs an edit./

Textual form
[edit]Is there a text giving a list of the countries publication and violence levels? Some may prefer text to a graph. Citations about the levels of publication and violence would also be good. Thanks, Andjam 04:43, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
- I used Timeline of the Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy and List of newspapers that reprinted Jyllands-Posten's Muhammad cartoons which contain references. However, the timeline article does not have a single organized table. joturner 04:50, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
East Timor
[edit]Has someone tried to return East Timor to the Dar-Es-Salaam? Thanks, Andjam 04:43, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
- What do you mean? joturner 04:48, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
- East Timor seems to have been coloured the same as Indonesia, whereas I'm pretty sure that it wouldn't have had violent protests against the cartoons. (I was trying to spell "house of Islam/peace") Andjam 05:12, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
- Oh okay; I was thinking of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and so I was thoroughly confused. I'm fix that tomorrow unless someone gets to that before me. East Timor, apparent, is one of the newest independent nations which explains why it wasn't marked on the blank world map I made this image from. joturner 05:16, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
Faroe Islands
[edit]The Faroe Islands as a nation within the Kingdom of Denmark do not occur on this map (while Greenland does). Well, I can report, that all Faroese media refused, to reprint the cartoons, and that they were no "major protests" of any kind. Thus, they can be coulered black -- Arne List 13:02, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
Methodology
[edit]I like the map you created for republications and protests. I was wondering if you could make available the methodology that you used to determine levels of republication and protests. Just by looking at Cartoon Body Count it seems to me that there is some controversy over what to define as an incident (i.e. whether the cartoons caused a given protest) as well as what constitutes a republication (1 or all 12 of the cartoons). Anything you could tell me would be appreciated. savidan(talk) (e@) 15:06, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
- I suppose it would be appropriate to say that I used a bit of my own opinion to determine what qualified as a "protest". I essentially used the major demonstrations mentioned throughout the timeline article as well as the newspaper reprints article. I also considered the boycotts against Danish products as a major protest as they were nationwide in some countries. As the timeline was my primary source of protest information, I didn't decide myself whether the sources of certain protests and demonstrations were the cartoons. In some countries, like Pakistan, where protests have been very common, the sources became irrelevant because they have already reached the highest degree of red. For the reprints, it didn't matter to me whether it was just one cartoon or twelve cartoons that were printing; I decided to ignore that aspect as it was literally impossible to include every detail one map. I would hope that the map would give a general overview of the situation and that the reader would look at the appropriate article to find out more information if he or she is looking for that. joturner 17:04, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit]The pictures were published at least once in Serbia. -- Obradović Goran (talk 15:29, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Iraq Reaction
[edit]I m not sure if Iraq reaction should be labelled in that color, only if you are going to count foreign terrorists actions, attacks on churches and foreign troops were before and after the cartoons and done by al-qaeda and their supporters. but the actions to the danish cartoons carried out by small protests and government condemned and cacelled contracts, I think it should be less than saudi arabia or same, not like Iran.. but that's just my opinion. [edit]Estonian newspaper KesKus printed the cartoon in their 2006/4 issue. [1]. And to date it's the only newspaper/magazine in Estonia --M2ger (talk) 15:55, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
NZ
[edit]How did you calculate this?? I have never seen or heard anything about these cartoons in New Zealand, definitely not in the paper, and certainly no protests resulting for them. Taifarious1 10:12, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
