Summary

Description
English: The chandelier, one of many in the Great Synagogue in Oświęcim, was found at Berek Joselewicz Street in Oświęcim, where the temple – destroyed by the Germans in November 1939 – was located. In 2004, archaeologists from the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, under the leadership of Dr Małgorzata Grupa, conducted work on its territory, during which they discovered over 400 elements of the temple’s furnishings and fittings, including a Ner Tamid lamp (Hebrew: eternal light) as well as many candlesticks and chandeliers. The work was initiated by Yahali Gat and Yariv Nornberg from Israel.
