İETT Şişli Garage opened in 1912 as a warehouse for horse-pulled trams. Later it was used to house electric trams and in 1948 was converted into a bus garage with the addition of ateliers. The first psychotechnical laboratory of Turkey was founded here in 1952 and comprised a program for the education of tram drivers, bus drivers and conductors. From 1961 trolleybuses were also stocked here. In 1987 the land on which the garage stands was given over to the İstanbul Municipality in order to start the construction of a business center. The construction of Cevahir Shopping Mall started in 1989 and the mall opened in 2005. The original management building of the garage was preserved and is now rented by a branch of Starbucks.
