c/n WA.163 Built 1957. Currently on display suspended in the ‘AirSpace’ hangar at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford Airfield, Cambridgeshire, UK. 26th January 2018 The following history for XK936 comes from the IWM website:- “This aircraft served in Malta and Singapore in the 1950s and flew on commissions with HMS Bulwark in the Far East. It is one of the most well-travelled of IWM’s exhibits, and was deployed to the vast majority of the ‘East of Suez’ areas of operations. It also served as an air-sea rescue helicopter, in addition to its anti-submarine roles. Its full service history is as follows:- 1 Aug 1957 delivered to RNAS Lee. 23 Sept 1957 - 7 Jan 1958 to 845 Squadron. 7 Jan 1958 - 13 Jan 1958 to RNAS Lee. 13 Jan 1958 - 15 May 1958 to 820 Squadron. 15 May 1958 - 18 June 1958 to 701 Squadron RNAS Lee. 18 June 1958 - 26 July 1958 to HMS Albion 26 July 1958 - 11 May 1960 to RNAS Halfar 11 May 1960 - 3 Jan 1961 to 848 Squadron 3 Jan 1961 - 28 Dec 1961 to RNAHU Tengah 28 Dec 1961 to 848 Squadron 16 Dec 1962 to RNAY Fleetlands 13 Oct 1964 - 8 Dec 1964 to 847 Squadron 8 Dec 1964 - 14 Oct 1966 to AHU Fleetlands 14 Oct 1966 - 28 Nov 1967 to 705 Squadron Culdrose 28 Nov 1967 - 10 Dec 1968 to RNAY Fleetlands 10 Dec 1968 - 31 Jan 1969 to Culdrose where it served with 705 Squadron 6 Dec 1974 to RNAY Wroughton till its transfer to IWM in October 1975” |
