| Description |
English: Construction number WA.342, registration XP299. Built 1961 and flew as a trials and demonstration aircraft for Westlands until 1966 when she joined the Central Flying School (CFS) of the Royal Air Force (RAF) at RAF Tern Hill. Transferred to No. 230 Squadron RAF in September 1967, she operated in Germany before becoming part of the Queen’s Flight at RAF Benson between January 1968 and June 1969. She then joined No. 1563 Flight RAF at RAF Akrotiri, until returning to 230 Sqn in April 1970, albiet still based in Cyprus. In December 1971 she joined 22 Squadron RAF at RAF Finningley, and was their last operational Whirlwind when, in December 1981, she was retired and flown to the Aeropsace Museum at RAF Cosford. |
