Other information
Original photographic print measures 9.25" x 6.9" (23.5cm x 17.5cm); handwritten inscription in ink on reverse by USN Pharmacist's Mate (PhM2) Graham S. Fulghum, Sr., a crew member of the USS Manatee (1944-1945) and a native of Raleigh, North Carolina. Fulghum inscribed the print while at sea in 1945. For security purposes at the time, he omitted in this inscription the identity of the battleship and the ships' location: "This picture is of one of our newest battleships / being refueled at sea. You can't see anything of / the Manatee except the fuel lines. Notice how / rough the water is. We were fueling here and traveling at about 12 knots."
