Summary

Description
English: The so-called "Viennese Bass Octave", a method used on Viennese and nearby harpsichords for compressing the space needed for the bass notes. See English Wikipedia, "Short octave", for explanation. Detail of a small single-manual harpsichord kept in the music collection of the Czech National Museum in Prague. The museum describes it as "anonymous, South Bohemia or Austria, cf. 1700"
