Summary

Description
English: A black-and-white panoramic view of the lake at Quarry Bluff—sometimes called the "Utica Quarry"—on a late summer evening. Surrounded by limestone bluffs, the abandoned quarry lake is located in Utica Township, Clark County, Indiana, just west of the Ohio River and across the state border from Louisville, Kentucky. Utica Township had an active limestone mining industry between 1826–1906, with a boom and rapid decline in the latter half of the 19th century. Since the early 21st century, the lake has been part of a residential subdivision called Quarry Bluff. The cover of the 1991 album Spiderland by Louisville-based post-hardcore band Slint shows a black-and-white photograph of the four bandmates swimming in the Utica Quarry lake.
