Summary

Description
English: This statue of Thomas Carlyle was unveiled in 1929 in his hometown of Ecclefechan, by Sir James Chrichton-Browne. This photograph shows the crowds gathered for the event. The statue was given to Ecclefechan by Mr Alexander Carlyle, who was married to Mary Carlyle Aitken, a neice of Thomas Carlyle. The statue is on The Haggs, Ecclefechan and is a replica by MacDonald and Creswick of the Boehm statue of Carlyle in Chelsea, London.
