Summary

Description
English: Cassier's Magazine of December 1894 had an article on page 163-176, titled John Ericsson, the engineer. Among the illustrations was this, showing the auxiliary steam packet Massachusetts. She is quoted as an 1843 ship, but most sources date her to 1845. Ericsson supplied engine and propeller for the Boston-built vessel, which was sold to the US Army in 1847 and then to the US Navy in 1849, retaining her name. Illustration shown at page 175.
