Summary

Description
English: Screenshot of time-domain reflectometer (TDR) Teleflex VX, SebaKMT, Megger, during testing of subsea power cable. The NordNed (Norwegian energy system) HVDC cable is 580km long and runs between Feda in Norway and Eemshavan in the Netherlands. The cable operates at 450 kV DC with the the terminal-to-terminal voltage of 900 kV. The HVDC converters at both ends had the highest voltage rating in the world (as of 2013).

The image shows a test when the cable was taken out of service for periodical check. The TDR test was applied and no faults were found, but the end of the cable at 579.8 km is clearly identifiable from the test at the point of connection. This is a world record for the length of a TDR test on a cable.
