Description
English: This animation represents the ground track of a satellite that orbits the earth at a constant altitude, with a period of one sidereal day. In this animation the plane of the orbit is tilted with respect to the plane of the equator. In the case of very high altitude satellite orbit, the only force that is at play is newtonian gravity. The shape of the satelllite's ground track is a great circle. This great circle is stationary with respect to inertial space.

On the left side the motion with respect to inertial space, on the right the motion as mapped in a coordinate system that is co-rotating with the earth.
