He was then at Fort Allen. Hesays: I took my leave of them (certain Indians) and theyof me very canditly; Capt. Arnd sent an escort with me oftwenty men to Fort Franklin, where we arrived at threeoclock in the afternoon, it being about fourteen miles dis-tant from Fort Allen. I ordered LieutnEngel to Evacuate it, and come to the South side of theHills himself with Nineteen men at John Eberts Esqr.,and the Rest being Sixteen men more, at John Eckenroad,both places being about three miles distant from each other,and both in the Township of Linn, Northampton (Lehigh)County, until otherwise ordered. 23rd. Left Fort Franklin. The Lieut., with Tenmen, escorted me as far as Probsts, about Eight mile,where I discharged him, and arrived at Reading thatEvening. From that time on the fort was occupied in a very desul-tory manner. If not actually abandoned it was more andmore neglected.
