- Description
- A cartoon in response to the High Court of Australia's decision in Al-Kateb v Godwin. The cartoon is illustrative of the surprise at which the media and commentators greeted the decision, and is particularly representative of those commentators who went beyond the decision to criticise the court itself. The cartoon was originally published in The Age: [1].
Fair use for Al-Kateb v Godwin
[edit]This image is claimed to be used under fair use as:
- It is used only to illustrate the "Consequences" section of the encyclopaedia article, in order to demonstrate for educational purposes the popular reaction to the case;
- The cartoon is highly representative of the reaction to the case by certain sections of the media and commentators, particularly for the way it goes beyond the decision in the case to criticise the court itself, and is used in the article to illustrate that reaction;
- The cartoon had a significant impact on the public, as it was published widely in the mainstream media, and was drawn by an award winning cartoonist, hence its selection for use in the article as a representative statement of the media and public reaction;
- It is of low or "web" resolution, as opposed to print resolution, and as such will not affect the market for print copies of the cartoon.
