English: Localizada entre a Baía de São Marcos, à esq., e a Baía do Arraial, à dir., a ilha está na foz do Rio Mearim. Na ilha, em tons de laranja a área urbana da Capital do Estado, São Luís e de Raposa, São José de Ribamar e Paço do Lumiar / Sitting between São Marcos Bay to the left and Arraial Bay to the right, the island is at Mearim River mouth. Urbans areas of State Capital, São Luís and Raposa, São José de Ribamar and Paço do Lumiar towns appear in orange.
Em laranja brilhante, ao sul da ilha, bacias de contenção da Alumar ( Alcoa, BHP Billiton, Alcan), que já foi uma das maiores produtoras de alumina do mundo antes de encerrar atividades em 2015, com lama vermelha, resíduo poluente produzido pelo processamento de bauxita.
