Summary

Description We lined up for six blocks in two directions. This was the largest caucus in the nation. The DNC knew that it would be big simply because it was two Congressional districts, but they never expected this. In fact it was originally scheduled to to be at a larger venue, because this arena was cheaper, they opted for this one. My district could have filled up this arena by itself. After waiting in the subfreezing temperatures with snow falling down upon us, we went inside to caucus. Only about 5000 of us actually made it inside, the rest were allowed to cast their caucus ballots outside. An additional nearly 5000 did exactly that. This wasn't the only caucus in Idaho. About twenty minutes from Boise is another town, they had crowds that piled up outside as well. Again, thousands inside and outside casting their Democratic Caucus ballots. Most of them for one man. Barack Obama has truly left his mark on Idaho. We chanted "Obama" and looked around at all of our friends, all of the Democrats in the "reddest state in the country". Someone described the feeling in the words I was looking for, she said to me: "It's like we are coming out the closet for the first time. We once hid in shadows or did not participate in political discussions." Now we can scream instead of whisper that we are Democrats. And yes, we did that too.
